When starting SHUTi, many people ask about medications. In published research studies, SHUTi has been found to be very effective whether medications are used or not. As a self-help program, SHUTi does not provide instructions regarding changing your medication regimen and you will not be asked to change or stop using your sleep medication. Instead, if you are interested in reducing or eliminating your medications, you should speak with your doctor, let him/her know you are using SHUTi, and talk about coming up with a plan on how best to do this.
Interestingly, fewer SHUTi users reported taking medications following use of the program compared to those who did not have access to SHUTi, even though medication use is not specifically addressed in SHUTi.
