Travel Tips for Overseas
When traveling to a new time zone, particularly overseas, it is best to get into the swing of the new time zone as quickly as possible. For long trips, you may wish to skip one or two days of Sleep Diaries when you are traveling or only napping on the plane. But, once you are settled into the place you will be staying, record your sleep times as normal.
Travel Tips for Short Trips
If you are only traveling for a short time, or just changing time zones by an hour or two, you may wish to try to keep to your schedule based on your “home” time zone.
If your schedule doesn't allow for this or if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time, you can adjust to your destination time zone. It is very important to keep the length of your Sleep Window the same.
In certain travel circumstances, you may find that following your Sleep Window isn’t possible. If that is the case, keeping your Awakening Time consistent will be very important to continuing your sleep improvement progress.
Keeping the Ground Rules in Hotels
While there aren't always many options in a hotel room, choosing a chair or couch to sit in and engage in a quiet, relaxing activity is preferable to lying in bed when you are not sleeping.
Also, don't forget that many hotels now offer choices of pillows, so try to make yourself as comfortable as possible for sleep. You may also want to request a quiet room, away from noise and light.
